Eee Note - Goodbye Pen & Paper

February 26, 2012 - Well it's interesting at World Mobile Conference that's just getting underway. We're hearing of a Samsung Note that is 10-inch and also seeing the LG Optimus VU. These devices are essentially an Eee Note except they don't have the quality of pen input and they feature phone functionality.

We mention this because it appears a new category is emerging. We're hoping this fact is going to push Asus into an updated Eee Note model that will see global release. Yes, Asus has just recently released the Eee Pad MeMO 173 in Asia but certainly it's not on par in terms of pen input as the Eee Note. The MeMO 173 is an LCD color display, has stylus input and phone functionality.

February 20, 2012 - It's been a while since our last update. We are hearing from a few lucky people who have managed to track down the illusive EA800 Eee Note. But honestly there hasn't been a peep from Asus regarding the Eee Note and its future. We have heard officially that the Eee Note EA800 will not be coming to North America in its current form. That means? Not sure.

What is interesting though is this recent release of a Samsung Note. It's a phone/tablet/pen and paper device. We're not sure how Asus feels about their "Note" being part of a Samsung product. We are also hearing about other similar 5-inch note type devices. These are a cross between a smartphone and tablet. What we've seen in the Samsung Note, the touchscreen sensitivity is not anywhere as close as the Asus Eee Note. It's hard to say whether Asus is looking at making a 5-inch Asus Eee Note, such as a EA500, but it appears this size device may be creating a niche for itself. Asus are very innovative and it wouldn't surprise me if they are looking at putting phone functionality onto their next Eee Note. Of course that's assuming we're going to see an all new Eee Note. We hope so!

September 5, 2011 - Thanks to an email from Bernard, he's mentioned that you can buy an Eee Note EA800 from Ebay and in his purchase, it was already switched over to English. So there are options out there to get your hands on an Eee Note if you're looking for an English model.

July 31, 2011 - It would appear that Asus Italy officially announced the availability of the Asus Eee Note EA800. Check the announcement on the Asus Italy Facebook page. Thanks to Anders, here is another retailer listing the Eee Note for sale in Italy. If you need more proof here is another shopping link, this time from AsusWorld.it. It is being listed at € 269,47.

So what does this all mean? Great question. It's encouraging for sure. Stay tuned for more updates on Eee Note availability!

July 30, 2011 - Well we're not sure if we just overlooked this, or if it was listed all along. We've spotted a product listing on Amazon.it for the Eee Note EA800. It's available to purchase, and ships in 3 to 5 weeks. We're now digging around a bit more to see if there are most online retailers in Europe selling the Eee Note. Drop us a line (email) if you spot anything!

June 20, 2011 - Based on the words from Asus on their Facebook page about no EA800 in its current form coming to North America, we are going to speculate. How would a 6-inch Asus Eee Note EA600 sound? If we could only dream!

June 4, 2011 - Well, thanks to Toby, we have a solid answer to where the heck is the Eee Note EA800. Ready? Here is the link. It's bad news for anyone out there hoping for the Asus Eee Note EA800 to show up on store shelves. Essentially on the Facebook page of Asus, they replied to a question about when or if the EA800 will be showing up on store shelves. The answer from Asus was, "...it's looking like the current generation EA800 at least will not make it to the U.S.".

Our thoughts after reading this? That speaks to the USA, but we can't say 100% that the Asus Eee Note EA800 isn't coming to Europe. It may or it may not. The response from Asus didn't answer the question to what other countries will see the Eee Note EA800.

Given that response, it does leave the door open in a way. They aren't saying the Eee Note is over, but they are suggesting that the "current generation EA800" isn't coming to the USA. This has us thinking about something else. If you've seen the typical ebook reader, such as the Kindle or Nook Touch, they are 6 inch devices. Perhaps there is going to be an Asus Eee Note EA600 instead? A 6 inch Eee Note might make for an amazing ebook reader which has amazing pen input. Is a 10 inch Eee Note possible? Perhaps. We do see other Asus tablets in the 7 inch and the 10 inch sizes.

So sure it's discouraging news about the EA800 but at least the June 1 release will not come to pass. If there is a different size of model Asus Eee Note coming, we will keep you posted in details if they come out.

June 2, 2011 - Based on emails sent to us, everyone is asking the same question. "Where the heck can I buy Eee Note?" Believe us, we wish we had an answer to that question. Yes, June 1, 2011 was previously thought of as being the date but we haven't seen nor heard anything about a global release of the Asus Eee Note EA800. We are doing our best to keep you updated. All we can say is stay tuned!

May 6, 2011 - We've been getting number of emails from visitors about Eee Note release date and Buy Eee Note information. We appreciate the emails! It would seem we all feel the same way. When will this wait end? It's all speculation right now as to why it's not globally released. We are tracking all news outlets to find the answers you want. It's still coming and we suspect that any week now we're going to see a release. At the very least, with June 1, 2011 being mentioned already, we are hoping for some pre-orders to come available. Stay tuned everyone!

April 12, 2011 - Update: Expected release date is June 1, 2011 at the latest. (thanks to Anton for the news tip)

News on the Eee Note? Not so much. How about buying an Eee Note? Nothing to report on that either. It would seem for now, there is no final release date for the Asus Eee Note tablet. We are sure it's coming, but it was supposed to arrive by now. If you have heard something we haven't, by all means contact us about it. Outside of Taiwan we haven't seen the Eee Note for sale or even as a pre-order product. We are watching and looking and will post back with whatever new information we can dig up.

February 25, 2011 - Big News! Not 100% confirmed, but the Eee Note is coming to North America very soon. Eee Note price? Apparently under $200 USD! These details are coming from an Asus sister website so it's likely more than just internet rumor. We will update as specific USA Eee Note release date info is released.

February 23, 2011 - Time for another update. When is that darn Eee Note release date? Wasn't that supposed to start in Europe this month? Yes it was or is to be released in February in Europe. There is still another week so perhaps it will actually happen this week! Stay tuned. Patience is a virtue as they say!

January 31, 2011 - It's been a while since the last Eee Note update! Get ready Europe! The Asus Eee Note will be for sale in February! We are tracking down details and specific dates on when and where you can buy Eee Note, but word is February. The price is likely to be 259 Euros.

We will update as we get better details of the European Eee Note launch.

December 12, 2010 - Lots of juicy information about the Eee Note EA800 including unboxing and hands-on videos!

eee noteNovember 30, 2010 - Get ready. Officially announced, there will be a color Eee Note in early 2011. We told you it's going to get exciting. Yes, the color Eee Note is coming everyone!

November 29, 2010 - Eee Note price just announced! It's launching this week in Taiwan for only $230! At that price point, we're even more optimistic about the Eee Note EA800 being a must have device. It's by far the most interesting tablet/ereader and the low Eee Note price means it's going to do very very well in the market.

November 26, 2010 - This is big news! The Eee Note release date in Taiwan is going to be early December 2010! The Eee Note price is between $261 - $293 USD. The global release date is still unknown at this point but check with us for details.

What's also interesting is that it appears there is a 12" Eee Note coming also! We can only guess the name or model number at this point. How does Eee Note EA1201 or Eee Note EA1200 or Eee Note EA1201 sound? Makes sense but it's only our guess at this point.

November 23, 2010 - Well word is out now. Is this official? The Asus Eee Note is the new official name for the previously named Asus Eee Tablet. Terrific news! The model is the Eee Note EA800 and is an 8-inch Asus Eee Note model. It certainly appears that other size Eee Notes are going to be released. Asus like to offer variety and certainly with a successful launch, you can expect to see other sizes. I think it's time to get started on the news and previews that you expect from a fansite. Stay tuned everyone!

Just added! Check out our Eee Note Blog for the latest news and previews!

There has been a lot of speculation about this Asus Eee Note. Originally, Asus had showcased and demoed this product as the "Eee Tablet". That was back in June at Computex where Asus unveiled their new Asus Eee Tablet. It was originally supposed to come to market in September which has long since passed. Obviously behind the scenes Asus has been working at perfecting this robust digital note taker.

Obviously since Computex in June, "tablet" has taken on a whole new meaning. As a result, Asus has since considered a new name for their e-reader/digital notepad. Of course we are speculating on the name of this new exciting product from Asus. Whatever the name, the price is still unknown, but it is expect to have a release date in the first quarter of 2011.

We say goodby pen and paper for good reason. Based on the early demo of the Eee Note, people were very impressed. It has amazing accuracy. It will be the best digital note taker on the market when it launches. If you think about it, digital note pads are really lacking on the market. We think this upcoming launch of the Asus Eee Note is going to be a game changer in the industry.

So what makes this EeeNote so special? Well if you buy this as an ebook reader, that's fine. It will suit your needs very well in that regard. What makes this like an ebook reader on steroids is the fact that it comes with that digital note taking ability. So if you can imagine for a student how useful this Eee Note will be. It's more than a one trick pony!

According to Asus, the company is also working on optical character recognition software to recognize and store handwritten notes on a PC for easy reference. Again, this really shows the wide ranging use of the Eee Note. Imagine writing your notes and transferring them to a PC which then created your notes into an editable Word document for example. I see this as the goal for Asus. It's one thing to take digital notes, but it's another to have them converted into a format that can be used in whatever type of word processing application you are using. We will have to wait and see. It's quite possible that those types of benefits will wait until the future generations of Asus Eee Note come to market.

Innovation meets cloud computing at Computex 2010 with the ASUS Eee Note. With a 2450 dpi touch resolution screen, the Eee Note is one of the world's most accurate and sensitive digital note taking devices, and gives the user the feel of writing on paper. Users can select one of the built-in notepad templates and have the option to store, sort and tag, organize or browse through them. Real time text annotations can also be made on-the-fly. The Eee Note makes reading easy, with text file page turns taking just 0.1 seconds-nine times faster than the page turns of normal e-readers. Reading documents or books remains easy on the users' eyes even after prolonged viewing periods.

The ASUS Eee Note features a built-in 2 megapixel camera that captures detailed images, letting the user grab screenshots of lecture slides and write notes on them instantly. It easily syncs up with a PC or notebook via USB or Micro SD to ensure that all notes, content, and calendars are constantly kept up-to-date. With up to 10-hours of battery life, the Eee Note has enough power for a variety of tasks. At the end of the day, users not only have an electronic notepad, but a media player and e-reader as well.
